Ralf Schumacher claims Audi remains ‘very very interesting’ for Carlos Sainz despite ‘difficult’ 2025 season

Carlos Sainz ‘s situation for the 2025 season continues to be a topic of discussion. Sainz’s positive performance in the 2024 season has improved his chances of continuing in the sport next year. Apart from the current teams, Audi has also showcased a great interest in acquiring the Spaniard. With Nico Hulkenberg ‘s confirmation with Sauber and later Audi, all eyes are on the 29-year-old and his decision.

Carlos Sainz was allegedly provided with a ‘two week ultimatum’ to seal his seat within Sauber from the coming season to drive for Audi. However, no confirmation has arrived from the entire ordeal. The German manufacturer has recently signed Nico Hulkenberg and is waiting on the Spaniard. Ralf Schumacher pointed out that multiple drivers will approach Audi to join the team’s entry in 2026.

However, the 48-year-old also noted that one year at Sauber will be difficult for Hulkenberg and the second driver. Regardless, the German believes that Sainz will be the ‘preferred candidate’ to join the German manufacturer. Hence, the next few months will be interesting regarding the entire course of action for Audi.

I say there is still a lot to do, but a lot of new people will still come to Audi, so a lot will happen. But that takes another year. So a year will be difficult for Nico Hülkenberg and the second driver. I could imagine that Carlos Sainz is a preferred candidate. Ralf Schumacher said in a Sky Sports interview (H&T: speedweek.com).

However, Schumacher asserted that Sainz didn’t have many options when it came to choosing a team. The German also mentioned the Red Bull scenario that if Max Verstappen were to leave the team only then would it make sense for the 29-year-old to move to the Austrian outfit. As a result, Audi remains a ‘very, very interesting’ option for Carlos Sainz to confirm from the coming season.

Sainz doesn't have that many options, if Max Verstappen shouldn't go, then Red Bull Racing is not that interesting for him, accordingly Audi will be very, very interesting for him. Ralf Schumacher noted.

Carlos Sainz claims he’s driving at a ‘very good’ level in the 2024 season

Carlos Sainz has secured one of the best season starts ever in his career in Formula 1. Hence, the 29-year-old had previously claimed that it was ‘no secret’ regarding his great season start. Speaking about the highly capable SF-24, Sainz reckoned that there was a good compromise in the car. The challenger had a great balance between qualifying and race sessions. Additionally, the 29-year-old claimed that he was driving on a very ‘good level’.

This year, we have a good compromise between quali and race, it seems. I’m driving at a very good level. Carlos Sainz said, as reported by racingnews365.com.

However, the Spaniard mentioned that he had been giving it his best during the McLaren and Toro Rosso days as well. Hence, the only thing that changed since then was the challenger and its performance. Sainz highlighted that in some years he had a better car than others and was able to perform well.

I’ve been at my best also in McLaren, I’ve been at my best in Toro Rosso, So what changes is the car – some years you have a better car than others. Some years you have a better qualifying car, a better race car. Carlos Sainz noted.

Sainz’s performances have helped him score a one-up against his teammate Charles Leclerc in the 2024 season. The 29-year-old is in a tight battle with his Moneasque counterpart for a better finish down the 2024 season. Hence, the battle between the two teammates would be highly exciting as one has nothing to lose while the other has everything to win from the challenge.
